Botanitas Isa-Aby’s is a delightful Mexican food, snacks and ice cream shop offering fresh food, fruits and desserts daily, all made high-quality ingredients. Indulge in mouth watering food, and treats like Three-Milk cake, chicharrones preparados, corn on the cob, strawberries and cream, tacos, burritos, quesadillas and much more! They also feature twelve of Blue Bunny ice cream. Owners, life long residents of Ottumwa, drew inspiration from Mexico's vibrant street food culture. They aim to bring those unique flavors to Ottumwa, preparing delicious "esquites"—seasoned corn in a cup with mayo, fresh cheese, and chili pepper, served hot.
One of their most popular offerings are the Tortas and fresh fruit waters as well as several fresh fruit dishes, including the "Crazy Watermelon" (sandia loca), a hollowed watermelon filled with assorted fruits, nuts and special sauces. Another favorite, "Chicharrones Preparados," features a crunchy Mexican shell topped with avocado, tomato, sour cream, pork skins, cabbage, and salsa—truly delicious! The shop name, Botanitas Isa-Aby’s, combines the daughters' names, Isabel and Abigail, while "botanitas" means "cravings" or "snacks." Located next to the former Jack Blackwell Tire at 1306 West Second Street, Botanitas Isa-Aby’s operates from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily, with Sunday hours from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and is closed on Thursdays. Sandra manages the business and works everyday in the store preparing great eats. Her oldest daughter, Aby, takes orders and runs the cash register. Isabel, is the youngest and is on her 1st year of helping her sister wait on customers!!! Sandra's husband, Eduardo, is in the kitchen and cooks delicious tacos, tortas, quesadillas, and burritos.
